Ideally we should all be caring for our bodies like pro athletes and woodshedding our technique daily the way most instrumentalists must. But on the whole we don't. This is why I often fantasize about re-framing vocal training to be more like some sort of martial-arts inspired practice, more overtly mind-body oriented and ritualistic.

The other thing is that if you're going to sing, you need to have something to sing about - you have to be really engaged in the process of living, as you are, which sometimes runs counter to this kind of discipline, even if you're not out partying all night every night.

Nothing beats the right motivation, though. And I would be UTTERLY content with that kind of schedule, too - it'd bring me in enough cash upon which to live well, plus allow me time off to travel here and there too. Since I don't have a B.A. I must of course get all my gigs myself. That way, true, I DON'T have to split my fees with anybody.... but I also don't have as many gigs on as consistent a basis as I might were I to have said B.A.

Ahhh, the conundrum, it stings....

0:>\=Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3390102516093123359.post-86225099001033434602012-01-27T17:48:14.003-08:002012-01-27T17:48:14.003-08:00Wow, I should follow suit and do the same.
